IPL millionaire Piyush Chawla reveals MS Dhoni brought him to Chennai Super Kings for Rs 6.75 crore

Chennai Super Kings' right-arm leg-spinner Piyush Chawla has revealed that it was captain MS Dhoni who decided to sign him in the IPL Auction 2020.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Piyush Chawla was roped in by Chennai Super Kings for Rs 6.75 crore.
  • He was also the highest paid Indian pick in the auction.
  • Chawla has revealed that it was MS Dhoni who brought him into CSK.

Following Piyush Chawla's poor run in IPL 2019, his franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) decided to release the IPL veteran. While the 31-year-old was expected to bag an IPL deal in the IPL 2020 auction, no one expected him to emerge as the costliest Indian pick.

As many as three franchises went for Chawla and in the end, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) made the winning bid worth Rs 6.75 crore. Though his IPL debut for the three-time champions has been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In a chat with Shanivi Sadana on Sportskeeda, Chawla revealed that it was CSK captain MS Dhoni who got him into the squad. Since CSK have likes of Harbhajan Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, Mitchell Santner and Imran Tahir, they weren't expected to bid for a spinner. In the end, the owners left everyone stunned by making the mega bid.
