Plan To Acquire 40 Per Cent Of Helmet Market Share In 3 Years: Studds Helmets MD

  Homegrown helmet maker Studds Accessories aims to increase its market share in India to 40 per cent over the next three years. Sidhartha Bhushan Khurana, MD - Studds Accessories Ltd, confirmed the development to carandbike recently. The company expanded its production capacity to 14 million units per annum with the inauguration of two new facilities earlier this year. Studds currently holds a market share of 30 per cent in the helmet segment and aims to capitalise on the newfound push for personal mobility in the post COVID era. With India being the largest two-wheeler market in the world, the growth potential is immense for the company.   Q: What measures did the brand undertake to cope up with the impact of the pandemic? A: “This has been a challenging time, not only for us, but the entire automotive industry which was already witnessing a slowdown since the previous fiscal. As a responsible corporate, we decided to halt all operations amongst our manufacturing facilities but this pandemic helped us to innovate and we started manufacturing face shields, protective goggles and face masks. Our manufacturing plants were closed only for eight days. We have been practicing social distancing at all our plants and regular employee screenings. We are also striving to educate our workforce on how to stay safe from this virus.” Q: The new manufacturing facility was to be operational by March-end, is there a new timeline now for the plant to be fully running? Driving helmets demand back to pre-Covid levels as Indians avoid public transport: Studds CFO

Studds, the world’s largest helmet-maker by volume, aims to capture over 40 per cent of the domestic market over the next three years. The home-grown company has logged a CAGR of 32 per cent over the last three financial years and, despite the annoying pandemic, aims to grow at around 10 per cent in FY21 too.  “According to a 2018 report, 65-70 per cent of the market is for the organised or the ISI-certified players; whereas the rest of the 30 per cent is for the unorganised players.. According to a 2018 Frost and Sullivan report, we have a 27 per cent market share, which has grown to, I guess, 30 per cent now.
