IPL 2021: 14th edition of the Indian Premier League will be held only after April 10

IPL Schedule 2021- 14th edition will be held only after April 10 :  BCCI is yet to announce the dates for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 14th edition. However, the latest England tour of India schedule has given a hint of when it IPL 2021 can start from. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday announced the dates for India’s four-Test, five T20I and three ODI series against England. The two-month-long series begins from February 5 in Chennai for the first Test. The longest-format of the game ends on March 8. It will be followed by T20I series which is scheduled from March 12 to 20. Following this, India and England play the ODI series which ends on March 28. After this long and hectic series, it is likely that the players would want a break before joining their respective IPL franchises for IPL 2021. A 10-day break for the players would help them rejuvenate and get ready for the new IPL season. It will not be a shocker if IPL begins from the second...

10 teams will be divided into two groups - New format of IPL from 2021 season

The Board of Control for Cricket in India  (BCCI)  is all set to approve the addition of two new teams in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The approval will reportedly be given in the Annual General Meeting of the board scheduled to take place on December 24. This isn’t the first time that the IPL will have 10 teams fighting for the glory. In 2011, 10 teams had featured in the season while in the next two editions of the T20 extravaganza, nine teams had taken part. And now with the BCCI likely to approve two new teams, the IPL 2021 is also set to have 10 teams. Earlier, it was reported that only one team will be added ahead of the next season while the 10th franchise will be added the following season. However, the franchises were reportedly not happy with this as two mega auctions would’ve taken place in that case. Meanwhile, the addition of two new teams will now bring a spate of changes to the next IPL season. What will be the format for IPL 2021? Cur...

The World’s Most Valuable Sports Teams 2020

If you’re wondering just how pandemic-resistant  the world’s leading sports franchises are, look no further than Fred Wilpon’s New York Mets. The Amazin’s, the No. 2 team in Major League Baseball’s most valuable market, were put in play by Wilpon in February after nearly two decades of ownership, putting them on track to be the first big-market Major League Baseball franchise to be sold in eight years. They are hardly a crown jewel. Wilpon was reluctant to keep pace with the league’s rising payrolls, leaving the Mets without a World Series win since 1986 and bleeding cash long before the coronavirus eliminated more than half the season and all of the franchise’s stadium revenues. That hasn’t stopped an all-star list of buyers from kicking the tires, including hedge-fund titan Steve Cohen and private-equity guru Josh Harris, one of whom will likely end up paying more than $2 billion for the franchise, one of 57 teams worth at least that amount. A decade ago, there was on...

MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has emerged as the strongest franchise during the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) which concluded on November 10. According to a study by media consulting firm Ormax Media, CSK has the highest fan following with 26.8 million fans. The study on ‘IPL Franchise Fans’ is based on a research conducted among 3,200 respondents across 23 states in India. The data was collected through the course of the eight weeks of IPL 2020. The study pegs the number of fans across the eight IPL franchises at 86 million. It  defines a franchise fan as someone who has a clear favorite team, is emotionally connected with it, watches its matches from start to finish, and discusses the team and its players online or offline.  While CSK had low scores during the league, there was no impact on its fan following. After CSK, coming on the second position is IPL 13 winners Mumbai Indians (MI) with 24.8 million fans. Royal Chall...

4000 Crore! BCCI Earned A Staggering Amount Of Money By Conducting IPL 2020

Back in March 2020, the outbreak of coronavirus forced The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to postpone the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 for a month. In April, the league was postponed for an indefinite period and there were doubts if the board would be able to stage IPL at all. Since the BCCI was staring at a loss of Rs 4000 crore, it was always open to staging the tournament outside the country. And in July, it confirmed UAE as the host nation. For the first time after a decade, the complete edition of the tournament was played outside India. The IPL franchises ferried their players to UAE in August and the tournament culminated successfully on November 10, when Mumbai Indians defeated Delhi Capitals to lift the trophy for the fifth time. Thanks to the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB), the BCCI successfully staged IPL and earned Rs 4,000 crore. The tournament also drew record viewership. In a conversation with  The Indian Express , BCCI's Treasur...

IPL 2021 To Be Played With 9 Teams, Mega Auction Likely: Reports

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) finally managed to complete the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) successfully as the final was played between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday night. Soon after the tournament ended, reports have now suggested that the Indian board is in no mood of cancelling the mega auction scheduled for next year. Considering the 13th edition was scheduled to be played in March but was postponed for November 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was earlier reported that the BCCI might cancel the mega auction scheduled for next year as there wasn’t much time left for the forthcoming edition of the IPL. However, as reported by  The New Indian Express,  the Indian board has already informed the franchises to start preparing for the mega auction. “The BCCI has told us to be prepared for an auction in a couple of months. Though it is not official, that the...

As pandemic forced fans to stay away from watching the league live, they made their way to the commentary box albeit virtually. The official broadcaster Star India partnered with online-ticketing site BookMyShow to provide fans "Virtual Match Ticket" through which selected fans could be a part of live streaming of the match. The network has put up digital fan walls in the stadium, including one in the commentary box, for every game.
