IPL with 10 teams: How ‘new’ IPL teams fared in the past seasons

  The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is mulling to add two more teams to the Indian Premier League (IPL). Going by the agenda of the board's AGM, which take place on December 24, the official announcement regarding it would be made later this month. Should two teams be added to the league, it will be for the first time since 2011 that IPL will be a 10-team competition. IPL had started as an 8-team competition. In 2011, 10 teams took part in the tournament. The number reduced to 9 for the next two years. IPL has remained 8-team tournament since 2014. IPL 2021: Franchises from Ahmedabad and either Kanpur or Lucknow reportedly set to be added

  The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already begun the preparations for organizing the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) in India in the month of April and May. It is speculated that the Indian board is planning to add two more teams to expand the  cash-rich league  and make it a tournament of 10 teams instead of 8. Though there has been no official announcement by any concerned authorities, reports suggest that in the list of shortlisted cities, Ahmedabad tops the charts and the new team can be from the city of Ahmedabad. BCCI wishes to make the newly-built Motera Stadium, also known as Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad as the home ground of the ninth team while one franchise can also be added from Lucknow or Kanpur.   The Board of Control for Cricket in India  (BCCI)  is all set to approve the addition of two new teams in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The approval will reportedly be given in the Annual General Meeting of the board scheduled to take place on December 24. This isn’t the first time that the IPL will have 10 teams fighting for the glory. In 2011, 10 teams had featured in the season while in the next two editions of the T20 extravaganza, nine teams had taken part. And now with the BCCI likely to approve two new teams, the IPL 2021 is also set to have 10 teams. The proposal to increase two teams for the Indian Premier League 2021 (IPL 2021) will be formally floated for the approval of the house. An approval will be taken from the representatives of all the state associations for the inclusion of two new teams in the said meeting on Dec. 24th. Dhoni-led CSK has highest fan following during IPL 2020, Mumbai Indians comes second

  MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has emerged as the strongest franchise during the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) which concluded on November 10. According to a study by media consulting firm Ormax Media, CSK has the highest fan following with 26.8 million fans. The study on ‘IPL Franchise Fans’ is based on a research conducted among 3,200 respondents across 23 states in India. The data was collected through the course of the eight weeks of IPL 2020. The study pegs the number of fans across the eight IPL franchises at 86 million. It  defines a franchise fan as someone who has a clear favorite team, is emotionally connected with it, watches its matches from start to finish, and discusses the team and its players online or offline.  While CSK had low scores during the league, there was no impact on its fan following. Almost half of Indian TV viewers watched IPL 2020

  Almost half of the Indian television viewers watched the recently concluded 13th edition of the  Indian Premier League  (IPL). As per  BARC India viewership data , the tournament clocked a cumulative reach of 405 million viewers —out of a total TV universe of 836 million—across 21 channels that Star & Disney India aired the matches on. In terms of overall viewing time,  IPL 2020  has shattered all previous records held by any broadcasting property in India. With a total of 400 billion viewing minutes on TV, IPL 2020 clocked a 23% jump in total consumption over IPL 2019 (326 billion minutes), and a 12.4% increase over ICC World Cup 2019 (356 billion minutes). With the rise in total time spent, the average per match impression also went up to 31.57 million. IPL 2020 TV Ad Inventory Is A Complete Sell-Out; Digital Set To See 3-4X Growth

  Disney-Star India has sold 128 per cent of the ad inventory on TV for the broadcast of the 13 th  edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), highly placed sources close to the development have confirmed to Adgully. It has signed on Dream11, PhonePe, Amazon and BYJU’s as Co-Presenting sponsors and Coca Cola, Polycab, United Spirits, Kamala Pasand, RummyCircle, Gillette, Mondelez, ITC, AFMI and Dailyhunt. Last year, Hotstar had sold most of the tournament inventory, including digital sponsorships, in a combined package deal. This year, there is less ad inventory on Disney+ Hotstar, besides the VOD service was unable to renew key digital distribution partnerships from last year like its association with Jio Platforms that exposed it to a potential 400 million viewers.
